Final Cover Designs

These are my final cover designs, I wanted to keep it simple. I think the minimalism is perfect for what this project is about, it's what I imagine a personal notebook to maybe look like.
For the final project I would have been a flaneur looking for Red and Green images in valencia too.
Setting Up for RISO

To get the spreads ready for printing I had to split up the images into their black and blue layers and then duplicate the spreads I have.
RISO TEST PLAN

I booked in a shorter slot so I could practise and see if there were any changes need before I print the real thing. I also went a got some paper: 210gsm cartridge paper for the covers and 180gsm for the inner pages. I also got some colourplan as it's 'better quality'. Whilst i'm sure it's true I couldn't tell much difference for what I want itt for and didn't want to spend 6x the price.
I've planned to do the red, green and blue front covers and the blue pano landscape image as a minimum. This is so I can make the red and green publications and work out the page sizes for each page so I can make the small pages smaller so not too much is cropped of the original design.
Final Test Print

I printed this out to make sure everything was in place and set up correctly and it all is luckily. I'm ready to get this all ready for RISO.

RISO TEST PRINT OUTCOMES
I'm really glad I alloted time for this as the front covers kept getting jammed and messed because it was too much solid colour. The technicians suggested changing the key percentage to 80% instead of 100% and also printing at the bottom of the A3 page as printing at the top can cause smudging.
It worked really well however and I think this style is going to work really well for the photographs. I like how each run is slightly unique.
Finish for the Covers
I had time to fix this and ended up finishing the front covers.
Since RISO inks can be picked up on your fingers I wanted to pour the matte powder on the covers once they printed. You then head the powder with a heat gun and it binds to the fresh ink, it creates this protective barrier which means the ink won't smudge and the blistering had a nice touch and reminds me a bit of water.
Making the Red and Green Publications.
I love how these have turned out they look so good together and it's great getting more practice. I used the electric guillotine so the cuts are super accurate.
Dimensions of publications and alteration dimensions to accommodate binding process.

Since it's using the same materials for Valencia blue I was able to work out how much to push the pages in as to avoid too much being cut off in the final cuts of the publication in the guillotine.
Blue and Black Layers

These are the rest of the pages ready for print.
Final Outcomes
These are my final outcomes, I printed enough to make 5. Lining them up wasn't easy and it did take a long time but i'm really happy with the outcome and felt like i've learnt a lot. And accomplished a good thing. Now it's time to put it together.
Putting it Together
Putting it together was fun but tedious I made sure to the best of my ability to line up the images and then sewed it together. I then bit by bit cut the sides of the publication. It was harder than I though because I was having to use a different electric guillotine which cut slightly differently to the one I am used to but I am very happy with the results.
Daylight Studio

These are the images I took in the daylight studio, I learnt from my mistake last time and turned of the main lights and just used the spotlights. I wanted a mix of hand held (roped my friend in) and images on their own. I'm really happy with the outcome and they edited well.
Videos
I experimented shooting these videos but I don't think they have worked that well, but are quite fun I feel.
Scanned Images
I scanned in the images and made a GIF/Video and I feel it's worked really well and a good way of showing the pages in a quick way.
